There Will Be More Killings

There will be more killings. It is an uncomfortable prospect, but it is there. We need to face it squarely and honestly. There is no mileage in shying away, cocooned in wishful thinking.

When, in the 1930s, a politician sounded warnings about Mr Hitler in Germany nobody wanted to know. People were all too unwilling to contemplate yet further conflict so soon after the dreadful Great War. They were preoccupied with raising their families in difficult circumstances, thinking about precious holidays, and trying to forget the ghastly experiences of twenty years earlier. Mr Hitler was abroad: he did not concern them. The politician was left marginalised, a voice in the wilderness. He was Winston Churchill.

Soldier Lee Rigby was butchered in broad daylight in an Islamic jihad killing, the perpetrator explaining: "The Koran forces us in Sura At Tawba ...". Remember, the Koran is not arranged in date order. That "Sura", or chapter, Chapter 9, being the latest, overrides and 'abrogates' all the peaceful verses elsewhere. Verse 5 commands, "Kill the unbelievers wherever you meet them". The Woolwich killing was not "a betrayal of Islam", as claimed in a monumental failure by David Cameron and Judge Sweeney. It was an obedient fulfillment of that command. "Muslims must kill non-believers wherever they are unless they convert to Islam", said Ali Gomaa, Grand Mufti of Egypt, the highest Muslim religious authority in the world. He follows the same source text.

The Woolwich killer, Mujahid Abu Hamza, a convert to Islam, had studied his Koran: he listed on a piece of paper a selection of verses that authorised him, and handed it to an onlooker. Those commands are ongoing, "valid from eternity to eternity" (Sam Solomon, former professor of Sharia law), and "true ... universal and trans-time" (Ahmad Saad, North London Central Mosque). Because they are in the Koran they form part of Islamic law. One who denies any verse is to be killed (Manual of Islamic Law o8.7(7)). The killing can be carried out, vigilante style, by anyone without penalty, "since it is killing someone who deserves to die" (Manual o8.4). "You people will never be safe", said the killer, a warning repeated since by one of his fellows.

We can expect other Koran-fulfilling Muslims to be driving around with weapons in their cars. One carload was discovered completely by chance when police stopped a car with Muslim men in it one summer Saturday in 2012: the computer had alerted them it was uninsured. The car was impounded, but rather too casually left uninspected until the following Monday, when bombs, knives and guns were found in it (top picture). Six Muslim men had intended to jihad-bomb an English Defence League demonstration in Dewsbury, targeting leader Tommy Robinson, and using the weapons to attack those fleeing. The demonstration had ended early, so their purpose was unfulfilled. The car's keeper had, in fact, remembered to insure the car: inadvertently he had mis-typed the reference number in his application. Thus, quite by chance, a Boston Marathon-type jihad bombing was avoided, and, quite by another chance, the six jihad-bomb conspirators were discovered.

We cannot rely on chance to protect us. Intelligence operatives, to their credit, have uncovered and prevented a number of plots. Nevertheless many people go around taking with them the entirely outdated "It couldn't happen here" outlook. In reality it already has, and in so many ways. Wake up, Britain. Wake up.
